COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS

Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center is a space for everyone. Be considerate of your fellow visitors and avoid making assumptions about anyone's age, race, gender, sexuality, pronouns, or their reason for being here.

People come to Rainbow Cafe for many reasons. We embrace diversity and practice respect. We ask that all visitors, as well as community groups who host events at Rainbow Cafe, respect our Community Agreements and Rights and Responsibilities. 

These agreements apply to our buildings, as well as virtual meetings and offsite Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center events. We thank you for your cooperation in creating welcoming spaces.


By entering this space, you agree...

For the safety of all our visitors and staff, the following behaviors are prohibited at Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center:
  • Physical violence, the threat of physical violence, or any behavior that endangers the safety of any individuals or group
  • Sexual harassment or inappropriate touching
  • Sexual or financial solicitation
  • Sexual activity and public nudity
  • Possession or use of weapons
  • Sale, use, or possession of illegal substances
  • Smoking of any kind, including vapes and e-cigs, in the building
  • Consumption of alcohol, unless served at an authorized event and consumed in the designated event space
  • Discriminatory language, especially language that is racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic, ageist, or ableist
  • Theft and vandalism
  • Interfering with others' ability to move through Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center, like blocking doorways, walkways, or exits
  • Handing out non-Rainbow Cafe literature inside the building without permission
  • Leaving personal property unattended
  • Photographing and/or recording others without permission or any other behavior that violates the confidentiality of other visitors
  • Not following the direction of Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center staff and/or volunteers​

Our Pledge of Non-Discrimination

In consideration of the provision of space-for-fee at Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center, I represent and affirm that our group is non-discriminatory and will treat all individuals and groups equally without regard to actual or perceived race; creed; color; national origin; religious background or affiliation; gender; gender expression or gender identity; sex; sexual orientation; pregnancy; age; height or weight; alienage or citizenship status; past, present, or future disability or condition including physical (ex. HIV/AIDS), intellectual (ex. learning disability), or psychiatric; veteran or military status; marital partnership status, or any other protected status in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.

Our Shared Understanding

I understand Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center reserves the right to revoke any use of its facilities by a user group in the event that such group fails to affirm or abide by these principles and our space terms and conditions. We recognize that respecting individual dignity, achieving equality, and promoting intergroup harmony are the responsibilities of all people, including our group. We reject hatred and will not engage in acts or expressions of hatred directed to any person(s) or group(s). Our group will work in good faith to affirm and abide by these principles in all our activities and affairs.

If you break these community agreements...

Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center believes in restorative justice. Before anything else, we will attempt non-punitive measures to resolve conflict and harm.

We may ask you to leave if you are unable or unwilling to follow our community guidelines. We also may take any action we deem appropriate for the safe and proper operation of Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center. This may include suspension from our building and services and in an emergency we may contact 911. Whenever possible, Rainbow Cafe will support opportunities for individuals suspended to re-engage with us. This will occur on a case-by-case basis and may include a two-way discussion, recognition of the harm caused to people, and making amends.
