Looking for your next queer read?
Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center maintains a wonderfully queer community library for anyone to borrow books from. Our library is completely free to check out - as long as you follow a couple of rules.
- You may only borrow two books at a time. To get more books, bring your borrowed books back!
- Let us know if a book is lost, stolen, or damaged! We promise we won't get mad, and we won't make you pay for the damages/theft. However, we need to know when books are missing or damaged to keep our online catalogs up-to-date. The only disciplinary action we would take is potentially restricting access to borrowing book if a massive number of books were lost, stolen, or damaged - which would be on a case-by-case basis.
- There's no due dates... mostly. As long as no one else wants the book you're borrowing, you can keep it as long as you want - just bring it back when you're done or want a different read. If someone else does want the book you're ready, we may ask that you bring the book back within two to three weeks so others can have a turn.
- Mind the age restrictions. Our books are physically (and electronically) labeled to specify if they have triggering content, include marginalized identities, or have adult themes. As an LGBTQIA+ 501c3 nonprofit, we have to take age restrictions seriously during a time when books are being continuously banned for minor queer themes.
Can I look at what books you have?Of course! All of our books are cataloged online with LibraryThing, a cool online database where you can search books by queerness, tags, ratings, author, cover, genre, and more. You can see a small selection of our books to the right.
I have a book I'd like to add/donate to the library! That's awesome, we appreciate it! Any book donations should be directed towards our librarians by emailing [email protected].
